Support for a flourishing company: just recently, responsibility for the entire logistics services on behalf of the wine merchant Wein & Co was assigned to the beverage specialists at DB Schenker. The move by the Austrian specialist retailer is seen as a first step in preparing to expand abroad, in particular to Germany. At the heart of this new partnership lies the customer’s central warehouse in Vienna, which will be operated by DB Schenker. This is where 2,500 of the wine merchant’s products, including some 1,800 different wines, are stored, commissioned and packaged. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, this facility also has a special air-conditioned warehouse for rare wines.
The assortment of goods will be delivered by DB Schenker to the customer’s various branches as well as to restaurants and private consumers. Wein & Co, by its own account Austria’s leading wine retailer, currently runs 20 branches, some of which include a wine bar and restaurant, as well as an extensive online store. In the past financial year, the company, which employs a staff of 280 people, sold nearly three million bottles of wine and generated sales of more than 53 million euros.
