Dear readers, looking at the business figures recently released by our parent company, Deutsche Bahn, it is very clear that 2018 was a good year for DB Schenker. We achieved a significant boost in our total revenues, topping 17 billion euros for the first time. And we also managed to increase our operating result, as well as the adjusted EBIT margin.
In addition, the relevant performance indicators for our business divisions developed positively. In land transport, for example, we were able to move many more consignments than we did the previous year. You can find all these facts and figures compiled here.
However, my summary is positive not only in terms of the figures, but also with regard to the forward-looking projects we launched in 2018. There is the connect 4 land platform, for example, which can be used to book general cargo shipments, and to which similar services for air and ocean were added under the label connect 4.0 in early 2019. And there is the 3D printing service that customers in the healthcare sector, among others, can use via the eSchenker portal. Last but not least, there is the electrically-powered autonomous operating transport system, T-pod, which we presented together with our partner Einride.
These are just three examples that show how DB Schenker keeps on evolving. And we will of course continue to evolve in the future, there is no alternative in this regard! Especially under the influence of digitalization, the requirements we must meet are also changing continually and at the same time becoming more diverse. Our aim in this context is to play a key role in shaping what makes a logistics service provider – in 2019 and beyond. And in 2018 we created the perfect conditions to do just that.
