Large and prestigious new business in China: on commission from Daimler, DB Schenker recently began supplying over 190 authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers with spare parts as the exclusive third-party logistics (3PL) provider. The deliveries are made by truck and originate from a warehouse operated by the German automobile giant in the city of Jinan, south of the capital Beijing.
The recipients of the spare parts deliveries are located in almost 100 cities spread throughout the country. DB Schenker organizes full as well as partial load deliveries, but in urgent cases will also arrange for courier shipments. According to a recent analysis by the German Center for Automotive Management (CAM), Daimler now sells more than one in five of its cars in China. Evidently, last year’s sales in this country rose by over 24 percent, to around 590,000 vehicles.
