In a location near the Swedish capital Stockholm, DB Schenker offers warehousing on the basis of the super efficient and reliable CarryPick system – a solution almost tailor-made for e-commerce providers. Just recently, the facility acquired a new customer: the online pharmacy Apohem. The company, which was founded in 2017, lists several thousand items in its webshop and aspires to deliver goods to the home – “hem” in Swedish – of the end consumer faster than they could possibly purchase them in a bricks and mortar pharmacy.
With its automated storage and goods-to-person order picking system CarryPick, DB Schenker has created the best conditions to do just that. At the heart of this system are self-driving robots that use mobile racks to transport the selected items to a number of workstations, where they are packaged by employees. This enables items to be prepared for dispatch very quickly. This system has the additional benefit that errors are virtually eliminated. Furthermore: the CarryPick system facilitates the management of peaks, those periods when end users order in particularly high volumes. Due to the sheer number of discount offers, these peaks have become part and parcel of the e-commerce business.
